Whats the regs. on bad checks in georgia?

What is the name of your state?Georgia

I just recieved a phone call from a check recovery agency telling me that I owed for a check that was bounced 3 years ago. The woman whom I spoked with said that if I didn't Western Union the money to them today by three o'clock, then she would have to send "legal papers" to the county that I live in. I explained to the lady that I didn't have the money right now, but I was willing to work some sort of payment arrangement, but she refused...is there anything that I can do to help myself?

yes...

Have her validate it. See this site for sample letters and read about what steps to take: www.creditboards.com
Also it is illegal for them to threaghten you with a lawsuit unless they intend on doing it, so either A) she's filing the lawsuit or B) She's breaking the law.
Either way, the validation letter should buy you some time.

Oh boy is she breaking the law. I just went through a similar issue with Check Care. Is that the company by any chance? If you have not gotten any correspondence from them I would do nothing. I would not even send the VL yet. I would however record every conversation or call. If it goes the way mine went you may never have to send them a VL, they may break so many laws that you can simply threaten to sue and they will leave you alone.

Let me know if it is Check care and I will give you some valuable information.

They are required to send you a certified letter explaining many things and you have 5 days or something to respond, but if they don't you don't have to do a thing.
