Who is responsible?

What is the name of your state? Nevada

Who is responsible for debt when the person dies and does not have much money in their estate (last check from job, small savings acct). For example, the only family my fiancee has is a half-brother in another state. Does he become responsible or do the debtors write it off?

Along those same lines, I have two young kids - do they become responsible for my debt if I were to die?

The ONLY time a person is responsible:

It is a joint account, OR
They are married and in a community property state.
