What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? In the state of NY how long does an individual have before they can no longer file a claim for disability? My mother suffered a heart attack last June and could not return to her job. She was still working at 80years old. Because she could not work they terminated her insurance and she had to quit. We never thought about filing for disability until someone asked us why she never filed. It there a time limit as to when you can submit a claim?

SSDI (disability) is paid up to full retirement age. After that, the person collects OASI (retirement benefits). At 80 years old, she's long past full retirement age and therefore would be receiving her SS retirement benefits, not disability.
