I live in VA and am on disability due to Multiple Sclerosis.

I now have an old creditor (~ 5 years) that is trying to take me to court so they can garnish my disability payments.

My wife doesn't work so my only income right now is my disability. This is NOT federal, but comes from a long term disability insurance plan that my employer provided.

Can they get a garnishment against this even though is is not from the feds?

Thank you for reading
Jim

Yes, income from sources other than SSI (and possibly SSDI) can be garnished like any other income source. Your bank accounts can also be levied. Private disability payments are not exempt.
