What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? AL

Live in AL, but work in CA. Full time employee of a large defense contractor for two years. I have just been diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson's. Effect on my job is small, so far. One issue is, doctor recommends I avoid climbing ladders, but most of my work is on Navy ships which is a ladder paradise.

I know nothing of how disability works. Am I obligated to inform my employer of my diagnoses? If I can't climb ladders, I don't have a job. I've tried reading my employers' long term and short term disability info, but it's way beyond me.

Any suggestions on where I can find information that my feeble mind can process?
