I was approved for SS & my company's LTD effective Jan 2009, due to stage IV cancer. My company is laying off everyone by the end of the year and is offering 6 weeks severance and an additional 2 months of insurance. My company has been very good to me during my sickness and has offered to include me in the severance package. If the package is paid in 2008, would I jeopardize any future SS or LTD benefits for 2009. As part of the severance, a general release needs to be signed by all employees. Does this type of release effect future LTD? Thank you!

It depends completely on the wording of the disability policy but generally no.
