What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
MN

I was just approved for Social Security Disability. I did receive a lump sum for back benefits. Up until now, UNUM paid benefits to me through my former employer. I do not understand why I have to pay them back to January 2006. If I had been actually on SSD then through medicare, it would have saved me thousands in co pays, prescriptions, insurance premiums. Why do they get almost all of my lump sum awarded?

Thank youWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Because that's what the policy says?

It is almost unheard of for any private or employer-sponsored policy NOT to have an offset if SSDI is awarded.
