8 year debt after divorce- who pays?

What is the name of your state? Ohio
The divorce degree that he signed states that he is responsable to pay a debt from an apartment that we shared but after 8 years they can not find him so now they want me to pay it and I has 30 days before they take it from my paycheck. They claim that since they can't find him that makes me responsible even though I have a signed document that says he is responsible for that bill and not me?
Am I in the wrong are are they just hoping I will pay it anyway?

Whoever the debt is owed to isn't bound by the divorce decree. since it was a joint debt, it doesn't matter to them who pays it - they just want their money and you are one of the people who is responsible to pay it. Yes, you have to pay it, and then you can take him to court to have him repay you.

Are you sure the SOL hasn't ran out on that?
