Annulment or Divorce?

This is about my friend who got married in march in california under the circumstances that her husband wanted to file GC with her.She looked very tensed the day before and her husband threaten her not to tell any of her friend about this marriage (only girl's parents and her husband's family members knew about this- as this was an arranged marraige by her family member who were not present at that time).In her community court marriage needs to be followed by religious marriage for marriage to be completed (religious marriage never took place),so they never consumated thier marriage and lived seperatly forever.Her husband verbally abused her a lot .
She was advised by her lawyer to file annulment convincing her that she can get it based on the ground that her marriage was never completed etc and she filed a case against her husband, her husband has counterfile for divorce also asking for to divide personal property and his expenses in this case.
I wanted to know how much are her chances to get annulment and will she have to pay any money to her husband as he has already done severe mental and social damage to her.
