annulment or divorce

What is the name of your state? NJ & NC**************...my husband was married about 20 yrs ago to a woman, who says she wants a divorce now, so she can on with her life, he thought she (Carrie) (NJ) had divorced him then, because he remarried & divorced since then....when he went to marry again his previous wife(JUdy)(NC) did not file divorce papers until 2 days after he married his wife(Karen)(NC) before me..so their marriage was never legal...so when Judy did file papers her lawyer went back to check and make sure he was divorced from everyone, which they said he was and granted him his divorce from Judy(NC)...Carrie can find no record of their divorce , not sure about marriage, so does that mean he must divorce or annul Carrie, and does this mean my marriage isn't legal here in NC...just want to get it all squared away...would like to know what Carrie or my husband should do...lynn
