What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Kansas We are US citizens living in Kansas and got married in the Bahamas 12 years ago. We are divorcing and are wondering if the Bahamas marriage is recognized or if we file for dissolution of a common law marriage. We are trying to do this amicably and want to minimize attorney involvement as much as possible. Thanks.

The US recognizes all legal marriages that took place in another country. Therefore if you legally married under the laws of the Bahamas, you are legally married as far as the US is concerned.
