What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

My friend filed for divorce last march and his wife has sworn to "drag the divorce on forever". I have been reading about bifurcation and wanted to know if anyone was familiar with the process and how does he go about moving to do that? He doesn't have a problem paying her alimony ( at this point he is paying her 40% of his pay right now), but he wants to get the divorce final and then deal with the financial stuff. Any guidance or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
