bigamy and the laws of bigamy in nc

    Jeannine,

Im no attorney, but here is my thought on this. If you have legal binding divorce papers in hand, you can get re-married. If you are married, in another state, or in the state you are in; you cannot get married again until that marriage is dissolved through divorce or annulment. To do so is not only illegal, but unmoral!!

If you want to remarry, that is wonderful. But assure you are divorced from the previous marriage before proceeding!! That I am aware of there are no laws indicating a waiting period between final divorce and getting married again, but there are laws in place regarding being married to more than one person at a time.

April is not that far away!!

And you would be wrong in 6 states.

Luckily for the poster, NC has no waiting period. For a full list see:

Of course, getting married before the first divirce is final is a boneheadedly stupid thing to do. Nothing quite as easy to prosecute as bigamy - all the prosecutor needs is a calendar.

I realize that now. LOL. Think she is already married whether done legally or illegally?
Parents should remember 3 things: Love your kids more than you hate your ex; when you have children the relationship with the other parent is until death; your children determine what type of nursing home you end up in.
Nothing stated by me should be taken as giving you legal advice or forming an attorney/client relationship.
