Can I sell the house for $1?

What is the name of your state? Illinois

Can I LEGALLY sell the house, and my car (both in my name), for $1 each to someone? They have been listed as marital property, but they are actually in my name. Can I do that?

**A: yes, if that is what they're worth.

**A: this is a scheme to devalue the two largest marital assets by selling them at a grossly undervalued price so his share is basically nothing.
Don't you think something is wrong with this scenario?

There's LOTS Wrong with the Scenario

This is a man that has taken every single available $ and hidden it and says there is none (a union electrician for 40 years).... This is a man that hasn't paid taxes in at least 6 years... This is a man that has threatened to burn the house down on several occasions (the insurance is in his name alone), and since he denied saying it, in front of two attorneys.. it's ok.... No argument whatsoever. The house is in her name because if it goes in his name.. the IRS will take it... it will be the SECOND home the IRS would take from them... He's doing the same thing he did in 1985 with the IRS. This is a man that was ordered to remove guns he had in the house and the next day flashed the guns in the woman's face and said 'prove it'.... Don't cry too many tears for him.... This is a 28 year marriage, 20 years not sleeping together, (I know.. she's not too bright...), threatened to kill her several times, molested his own teenage daughter, and many many too many more things to mention. He is a monster... and the woman is finally finding the strength to get away from him... and her attorney who talked a good game in the beginning... suggested she file for Exclusive Possession of the Home when he threatened to burn it down and get an order of protection on him, when they got into court yesterday.. the husband said "Nope..I didn't say that".. and her attorney accomplished getting an order of protection against BOTH of them... and keeping them in the house together... and told her if she pursued the Exclusive Possession of the home (which was the attorney's suggestion in the first place) SHE would most likely be the one that had to move because the husband has 'better means of taking care of the bills'. The wife is a vietname vet and is on disability. The only thing that woman has for the rest of her life (she is 57 years old) is THE HOUSE ! If he gets the house, he will NOT sell it.. and she will NEVER get a dime to live on... Her attorney has turned on her... And she's already paid out $3000 in attorney fees ! What in the WORLD is she supposed to do? She is on disability for God's Sake !!!!

Near any good universities? I can up the $1 to, say, $50!

Come on HomeGuru... didn't you hear the one about the kid who finds an ad for a pristine mustang for $25 on the bulletin board at school and calls thinking there's a catch or a typo... Come to find out hubby called the wife from the Bahamas telling her to sell his car and send the proceeds to fly him and his mistress back.

Hey, if this isn't an urban legend then I'm jumping in on the deal!

Ignorance is Bliss

You know nothing about abused wives, or mental abuse in general. Volunteer at a shelter for a day or so, talk to the people... and maybe you won't be so ignorant... Must be hard to breathe way up where you live... I hope you're not an attorney... may you need one one day though... and get one with a heart just like yours....
