Car is in his name

What is the name of your state? Texas
My ex girlfriend has poor credit and bought a car in her most recent ex's name. She has made about a year's worth of payments on it and has around $7,000 equity in the car. The ex is wanting to take the car back now since it is in his name. She has proof that she made the payments. Does she have any recourse? Can she get any of the equity back?
