Cashing Spouse SSD check

I am newly separated. A TX resident living in TX. Spouse has deserted me. Can I cash my Spouse's SSD check to cover the mortgage that is in both our names?

I do believe you would be breaking the law if you do. And subject to jail if he wants to push it.

If the check isn't payable to YOU, you cannot cash the check. Period. Mortgage or no mortgage. If he had direct deposit into a joint account, you could use the funds.
