i need to find out my rights and how to divorce my common law husband in the state of ga.common law was discontinued 7/1/96 but was grandfathered.i'm trapped in a controlling relation ship and he always tells me i have nowhere to turn because of no job,family to help me etc.we have filed jointly for the last 3 yrs and m daughter and i are both on his company insurance.we have lved togather as man and wife since dec.of 1992.how do i take action to make a better life for my daughter and myself?

My response:

You start by seeing an attorney, getting the advice you need, and then filing a standard Petition for Dissolution (Divorce). Most Family Law attorneys will give you a free initial consultation.
