I live in CA, a community-property state. For purposes of division of property in a divorce, how is "length of marriage" determined?......we have been married for 8 years but living separately for the last 3 (co-parenting our kids and seeing marriage counselor to see if we could get back together)...thanks

for the purposes in question, it is answered by this:

we have been married for 8 years
unless there is a formal legal separation.
