What is the name of your state? California

Last night I posted this: https://forum.freeadvice.com/showthread.php?t=416202

The soon-to-be-ex-husband's copy of the filing for summary dissolution is in storage, so he called to get the case number to file a change of address and was told that was some "clerical error" that has resulted in many divorce filings being misplaced. They said it's happening to a lot of people.

So rather than him and his ex looking forward to filing for the final judgment, they (and I and her new boyfriend) are all stressed and waiting to hear back. The clerk he talked to took his number and said he should hear back within a week, but to tall back if he didn't hear.

Now. If they can't find any record, can he take his file-stamped copy to the courthouse (which will mean an unexpected trip over 300 miles south that we can't afford, and she's out of state, so it'd be easier for him to go) and have the date on that en forced? Or will they be SOL and have to start over?
