Debt incured during a seperationWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington Hello, My husband and I are seperateed ( we are going to counseling, but not living together) I was wondering how to protect myself from any debt he incurs while we are seperated? He has gotten himself deep into check cashing places before and ran up lots of credit card debt. Is there anything I can do? Thanks! |

| The best thing you can do to protect yourself is go ahead and file your lawsuit.

| Cancel joint credit card accounts and bank accounts. Open up new ones in your name only, and he can have his. It worked well for me when I separated from my husband because we ultimately divorced. |

| Since many state require a waiting period before a couple can get a divorce, can debt incurred on individual accounts during the separation waiting period and process be ordered to be paid by the other spouse, assuming neither person is dependent on the other? |
