My friend is in the military, currently deployed. He has divorce papers from Washington State where he and his wife resided for a few years, and has tried to file them through Washington State, but she didn't want to cooperate. She lives in California at the moment, but should he be able to keep the Washington State papers, or should he get papers from California?

Since there's really not much that can happen while he's deployed (military members do have quite a bit of protection where family court matters are involved, and far moreso if they are actually deployed) he'd be best advised to make an account himself and ask his questions.

It's difficult dealing with third parties - the third party rarely has enough information on hand to answer any questions which may become pertinent.

(That and legally this doesn't concern you at all)

However, OP should tell him to look very carefully at differences in laws between WA and CA. If WA has jurisdiction, then it is almost certain to be better if he's the higher income person. If he's the lower income person, CA may be better (CA can award alimony even in short term marriages while WA does not).

Oh absolutely! But as he's currently deployed, wifey can't do a darned thing to him (for the most part) anyway.

Yet.
