Divorce or Annulment???I have an Aunt that married a man and 28 days later he left and she has not heard from him since. She has no idea where he is now. She tried to find him for a long time. She tracked him to Minn. working for a trucking company, then to Mississippi through a physical rehab center...but he is gone again and she can't seem to find him. She can't even find him long enough to serve him with divorce papers. They married in Louisiana in '93. It has been so long now. Is there such a thing as common divorce? Ha Ha Sounds good anyway. What can she do now without it costing her a large amount of money? Can it be annulled or does she still have to get a divorce? If she does have to get a divorce, what would be the best way to do it? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! |

| Yes, you can divorce someone whose whereabouts are a mystery. Her state probably allows for service by publication, which means she runs a teensy-tinsy legal notice a certain number of times in a newspaper of general circulation, stating that she is planning to divorce him and that if he doesn't respond by such and such a date, that the court could grant it in his absence. Her state's statutes will detail all the particulars on how this is to be done legally. She needs to either hire an attorney or turn herself into a go-getter researcher. |
