Is it my responsibility to contact this lawyer to find out another date? I would rather not testify as to the fact that I am for the defendant.

Q: Is it my responsibility to contact this lawyer to find out another date?
A: The attorney is unreliable; call the court clerk and get the truth about the next court date. Once served, you are under a continuing obligation to show up until the case is resolved or until you are released by the judge.
