Divorce in New York after a long separation

What is the name of your state? New York

My fiance just found out his divorce was never finalized from his former wife whom he married 32 years ago and quickly (and legally) separated from. He cannot find the separation papers. What is the easiest and least expensive way of filing and finalizing a divorce after a long time separation in New York? His former wife now lives in North Carolina and they have been separated for the full 32 years. I have been living with my fiancee for the last 12 years.

Go to the court house and get a do it yourself packet. That's usually the easiest and cheapest. The wife would have to be in agreement, he cant do this if she contests it. I'm assuming after 32 years it wouldnt be a problem.
