Divorce via publication

What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state? California. Friend was married approx 3 years ago. 9 mos. into marriage, he was incarcerated. Is it true that if he publishes his intent to divorce, and it goes unanswered for 30 days, they will be legally divorced?

I am sure that some of the CA posters will respond to this...but my guess is that the answer to that is NO. If he doesn't know where she is she can be served via publication, but I still think he needs to go through the proper proceedure for divorce.
