divorced filed 5 yrs. ago

Currently in NY, my question is: I filed for divorce in 1997 in Arkansas, the papers were sent to my husband in Saudi Arabia. He did not sign the papers. We are still married ... or are we?
Since so mych time has passed have theses records been erased or would the divorce papers still be valid now? Am I legally still married or not?
