California-My friend was "forced" into a loveless marriage for the sake of his newborn daughter 1 year ago. The woman is an illegal alien who threatened to take the daughter to the Phillippines and never return unless he married her. He wants a divorce but is afraid she will take their child. He has been told by her that they need to stay married for at least 2 years so she can become a permanent U.S. Citizen. What can he do at this point? (Isn't their daughter a U.S. Citizen because he is?) He is willing to pay child support and wants to be a part of the child's life however, she constantly threatens to take their daughter away and thus he stays married to her. She does not work or go to school and he pays for everything. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
