    filing taxes for 06

What is the name of your state? ct
My divorce is going to be final right after the 1st of the year since we were still married the last day of the year I know we can file as married jointly. My question is how to get my half of the refund. We have had separate bank accounts for years. I know to e-file the money goes into the account of the first person list on the form(my ex's name) How do i insure that I can get my half. Should I just file married filing separately? Or get a temporily saving account with both our names on it?
Thanks for any information or suggestions.

There is a new law for 2006 that allows for the refund to split and direct deposited in up to three different accounts.

Therefore, unless your respective banks have policies of not allowing a direct deposit in two names, to be made into an account unless both names are on the account, you should be able to designate how much goes into each of your accounts when you file the return.

The other alternative is to not do direct deposit. In that instance both of you would have to be present to cash/deposit the check, and you could arrange at the same time, to have the other's share immediately made out in a cashier's check, or a transfer of funds.
