Is foreign marriage in China valid in U.S.?

What is the name of your state? California. My girlfriend was married in Mainland China in 1985 with one child. She has been separated now for 8 months. Is it legal if I marry her without first obtaining a divorce? Does the U.S. recognize the marriage laws in Mainland China? Please help. Thanks.

She has to be legally divorced before you marry her. Of course foreign marriages are legal in the U.S., just like U.S. marriages are legal and binding in China. If not she is considered a bigamist, your marriage will be no good.
