Fraud Charges

i live in texas and my divorce was finalized in april of 1997. while my ex and i were separated the entire year of 1996. i was just informed from a credit collection agency that she had a phone hooked up in my name and with my social security number and then left an unpaid balance that they are trying to hold me responsible. she was and is living in alabama and i was and i am living in texas. i am fighting the validy of this debt and one of the articles the credit collection agency wants is for me to file fraud charges against her. i called the police dept in alabama and they told me because we were legally at the time the fraud occured that i could not press charges. i need to know if i have any other recourse in fighting this debt.

thank you,

John Siggelow
