What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I was married in 1976 in L.A. Calif. In 1977 we split and went our separate ways, not having any contact since. In 1984 I find out that my ex had filed for divorce. Upon requesting a copy of the final decree so I could remarry, I was sent a letter from the superior court saying that up to this date,
".. there is no reord of the Final Judgement listed in the Register of Action."

My question is..why this is, and how would I go about getting that final judgement.

It is that way because the divorce was never finalized. Find out where in the process your husband stopped and continue - however, a divorce from the 80's will be in the books and you'll probably need to just start over.
