How long to finalize CA legal separation?

What is the name of your state? CA

We're preparing to file for legal separation in CA. Anyone know how long it generally takes to get a (court ordered) legal separation in San Francisco if it's uncontested? I know a divorce is not final until at least six months after the other spouse is notified of the filing of the petition; I believe there isn't something similar with legal separation? Due to extreme financial incompatibility and for tax purposes, I really need at least a court ordered legal separation if not a divorce by the end of 2006.
