my spouse received for the 1st time a tax bill for 1993 from the state of texas, we live in georgia. we were due a refund from federal taxes but instead was told that the refund due was applied to the 1993 tax bill and he still has a balance due in 10 day.

what legal right do i have as the innocent spouse? we were not married at the time and we filed jointly. he has contacted the state of texas about the error. in the meatime, do i have to suffer for something that may or may not have occurred before we were married? and how can he owe taxes for a state in which he did not live during 1993?
