International divorceBritish Columbia, Canada I have a friend in Canada. She was married in Hawaii and her husband then abandoned her and the children. She moved back home to Canada and has received little to no child support and most times, does not even have a number or address to reach her husband. Does she need to file for divorce in Canada or the USA? She has always assumed Canada, and her husband refuses to come there to sign anything. I told her that I thought she could do it in Hawaii since that is where they were married. Which is right? |

| You should file the lawsuit where you live.

| You will have to get a lawyer. I know nothing about Canadian law.

| She needs to consult a Canadian attorney. However, I suspect that she doesn't need his signature to get a divorce. |
