I am trying to follow the case of an estranged family member through his state's (Missouri) online court website.

He and his wife are divorcing (they have two small children), and on January 10, a 'dismissal hearing' was scheduled for March 10. Then on January 24, a 'settlement conference' was scheduled for March 1.

What does this mean, and what are the likely causes and possible results?

Thanks.

It means that one of them asked for dismissal (and the other apparently objected) and the court asked them to try to settle things between themselves.

Any number of things could be going on, but quite simply it means that they have not agreed with all of the issues involved in their divorce. If you want to know more, simply ask them - instead of stalking them behind their backs. It doesn't concern you.
