Joint Credit Cards...What is the name of your state? Texas My husband divorced his wife. She told him "give me 2k to cover your portion of our joint accts and I am closing them." He did, she ran it up, closed it, never paid, and he heard about it six months later when the bank called him. Granted, he should have checked on this himself, but his mind was elsewhere. I know the only thing to do is sue his ex, but can someone tell me what is involved in this suit? Would he be awarded what she owes on the account or only what he has started to repay? Of course, she pulls this after she is awarded the house then walks the mortgage two weeks later. |

| What was ordered by the court when they got divorced? Was the debts mentioned and what exactly does it say? No matter what if says the credit card company is going to go after him and they have that right. He can sue in civil court, you can sue for anything. What his chances of winning are though depends on what the decree states. If she wasn't ordered to pay all or part of it, then he has very little.

| Neither of them were ordered to pay by court. The agreement and payment of his half was made prior to the divorce. She told him what his half was, he paid it and she said from there she was closing the account. But then she ran it up, closed it, and dropped it. |

| He will end up being responsible. I can't believe an attorney would let that go with out having something ordered. He must not have had an attorney to look out for his best interests. He'll pay for it now. He can't prove any agreement, it will be a he said/she said thing.

| Yeah, I'm not too happy with this attorney at all. My husband is also a bit too trusting as well and assumed she would do all the right things and assumed his lawyer would as well. I wish I had been there! |
