lawyer canceling court date?

What is the name of your state? MI

Ok, first of all my husband would not agree to sign the papers i had drawn up and told me the only way he would agree to the divorce and not contest it was if he filed for divorce. So I let him file, I signed his papers (after reading them) and turned the papers into his lawyer. Oh by the way, I paid the filing fee.

Everything was moving right along until, the final few weeks. The court date has been rescheduled 2 times and this final time, he (my husband) says that his lawyer is canceling this court date because of his non-payment of her fees?!?!

Can his lawyer do that? I did not retain a lawyer because we divided everything up 6-7 months ago and we agreed that was it. What do i need to do now? How can I keep this court date if I am only the defendant?
