legal separation

What is the name of your state? WI
I just found out my husband had an affair. I am completly devistated..we have been together 12 yrs and married almost 5. We have 2 kids 1 and 3. I don't know what to do..what is a legal separation, can it help protect me financially untill I decide on what to do? He makes 80% of our income......please help!!!!
