What is the name of your state? NORTH CAROLINA

I live in the state of NC and my legal spouse lives in VA. I am considering a legal separation would this be a wise finanical move?

It really depends on the facts and your circumstances.

leagal separation

the facts are: we are both from North Carolina, married 34 years ago, are not a home owner, both make 40-50K and are having to pay IRS yearly because we do not have property, etc. I would like to claim head of household in the state of NC, we might very well divorce in the next few years, but I am interested in the now.
