Legal separation and infidelity

What is the name of your state? RI
I am a professional married over 20 years. Unhappily. A lot of financial issues at stake. Two adult children. Desire to separate assets equally if divorced. I am interested in establishing a legal separation. If I am having a relationship outside my marriage during time of legal separation and it is discovered, will that impact the outcome of property settlement? I do not want to be unfair, but not willing to lose all. Please answer in legal, not moral fashion.
