What is the name of your state? Canada, Ontario
My boyfriend is looking at filing for divorce from his wife. They have been legally seperated for 5 years. All seperation agreements have been completed, including child custody and division of assests. Basically both parties are in agreement and the divorce is "uncontested". The problem is, they were married twice in two different countries. They were going to get married in Las Vegas, but the vacation they bought for Vegas was for married couples only. Therefore, they decided to get married at the Justice of the Peace in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (where they both still currently live) so that they could partake of the vegas vacation. They flew to vegas for their honeymoon and while they were there, they got married again at a chapel in Las Vegas. My question is, now that they are filing for a divorce, do they have to have both marriages filed? Is the first marriage in Ottawa the only one that legally counts or do they both hold legal ground? If we only had to file for divorce in Ontario, Canada it would be so much easier for all of us!
