What is the name of your state? California

My husband I were legally married in Nevada in march of 2000. In June of 2001 we were legally married in the state of California. Now we're separated and I'm trying to "make it legal". I'd like to end my Nevada married and become legally separated in California.

HELP!

What you would LIKE and what is legal are different.

Your california marriage is invalid except for ceremonial grounds.

You will have to get divorced in Nevada.

So, to verify that I'm understnding correctly, what uyou're saying is that my california marriage is null and void because i was already married at the time?
This is actually a releif if true.

Thanks.

So, even though there is a marriage certifiacte on file in CA, I don't have to do anything to end that "sham?"

Fraud maybe...bigamy, no. I married the SAME PERSON.

Where can I verify these facts?

YOu need to have the california marriage annulled and divorce in Nevada.

And you can verify these facts by paying for the services of an attorney in California.

Uuuum, Beebs - doesn't it depend which state she's a resident of? Whiel the Nevada marriage is the one that needs to be dissolved, it doesn't necessarily have to be doen IN Nevada.

The marriage in CAlifornia MUST be annulled in california BEFORE the nevada marraige can be dissolved. It doesn't matter where the divorce is filed but the california action MUST be in california.

So, does this mean I don't have to be in NV or use NV courts to end that marriage? This is so complicated. I know better choices could have been made but hey, live and learn, I say.

Thanks for the advice, I apprecaite it!

you do not have to be in nevada to end that marriage, but you DO have to be a legal resident of the state in which you file and you will not be allowed to file until you have the california marriage annulled.
