What is the name of your state? Ca

I married a man in 1976 and we have two children, he his first wife years later and found out that his marriage to her was still in legal, so my question is am I legally married to him or not? and now that she is dead will that make our marriage legal? we have been living together for 29 years? would it make us common law?
