What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

Can the mental state of a person be taken into consideration later on when trying for a modification of the divorce decree? For example, suicidal, in a psych ward for five days and court ordered to receive mental health therapy for two years at the time of the divorce? And, if one was to represent oneself in court, what petition would be requested?

The nature of the mental illness could be important too - what exactly happened, and when did it happen (in relation to the divorce being filed and then finalized).
