misspelled name in a divorce decree - please help. What is the name of your state?Hey folks, I am new to this forum and I am not quite sure even if I am at the right spot. Also my question may sound stupid to somebody so please accept my apologies. I am from the state of Virginia and I recently I got divorced. The decree of divorce was issued, but there is a typo-mistake in my name and I need to get it fixed. I went to the local circuit court who issued the decree and was given absolutely contoversial information. At first I was told that I need to re-open the case ?!!??. After that I was told to file for name-change and given all paperwork for this. I read the "name change brochure" carefully and it does not apply to me at all. I just need to fix the typo-mistake in my name on the decree, not to change my legal name. So please, if anybody has any idea what should I do, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. |

| Call your atty, ask them to fix the type-o, and resubmit it for a judge's signature.
