mortgage dissolution

my husband purchased a home in July 2000. the mortgage company used only his financial information to process and approve the mortgage. i was told that i had to sign the mortgage to make it final because we are married. during our divorce, what will i need to do in order to walk away from it with no obligations (should he default in payment,etc.)?
