Need divorce(abused)

I was living in Kentucky and was being abused by husband and I stayed in a shelter with my two babys and saved up some money to go to Michigan, now I am in Michigan and would like to get a divorce but michigans law says that I have to wait till i`m here for 180 days before i can file for a divorce, because I am not a resident. Is this true? Will i have to wait for that amount of time and hope my future husband dont come and find me and my babys?

You also have to reside in Kentucky for 180 consecutive days before filing as well. Keep in mind that a divorce alone will NOT keep your ex away. You need to get a DVO or Domestic Violence Order or a restraining order. You should put in your divorce decree that he need domestic violence counseling and have the judge order it. If he doesn't attend counseling, he could go to jail for contempt of court. Your divorce attorney will also help you in getting the restraining order (DVO/EPO in KENTUCKY). Good Luck to you and your children!
