What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

My husband and I have been married for 18 years. We were seperated for 2 years and then we got back together in 2008. We have one minor child. Last month my husband said he was filing for divorce and did. I recieved the papers in the mail, but they suddenly disappeared the next day. I was just told by him that he got the final decree in the mail yesterday. It was finalized based on me not responding to said process. (I didn't know what dates because of him taking my copy of the papers) He has put in those papers that both parties have lived separate and apart since 2006. What steps can I take to dismiss this? If I am able to do so. Thank you, Michelle (va)

Let's see if I understand this.

You got the papers some time ago. You never took any action to respond. The decree is now final.

Assuming that's all true, you're going to have a hard time doing anything at all, and you're certainly not going to be able to dismiss the divorce process.

You can see an attorney, but it may be too late.

I would go down to the courthouse and see what's in the file. If you only got served a month ago, it would be more than a bit odd for the divorce to be final already. That would be super fast even in a county that had no backlog at all in the court system. I would get a copy of the entire file and then go get a consult with an attorney....but do this immediately, first thing monday morning.
