need ss# in n.y.?

i live in new york state. i have not seen my wife in 14 years. i have no social security number for her. is there any way to get the divorce without one? can the papers be accepted without it? i am under the impression that both social security numbers have to be on the final decree...is there a way around that or is there some way of obtaining her number without spending a lot of money?
