Need two phones??

What is the name of your state? OR
Is it true that when you are going through a divorce and there is a child involved, you are required to have two phones by which the other parent can get a hold of you? My STBX is trying to tell me that having a cell phone is not sufficient enough that I also need to have a home phone for emergencies?? I would think that a cell phone is the best way to get a hold of someone in any situation. Can someone please help me out!! Thank you!

You are required to have a phone. Whether or not it's a cellular phone is up to you.

I'm not saying your STBX is right, but there are some downsides to relying solely on cell phones. Cell phone service is dependent on a number of factors, including service area, signal strength, and "dead spots". Someone may not be able to reach your cell phone in an emergency.

Recognize that your STBX may have a legitimate concern rather than just trying to bust your chops, and go from there. Maybe you can work something out, like splitting the cost or arranging for alternate contact at a neighbor.

I don't know if they still do this, but you used to be able to get phone service that only allowed incoming calls and emergency calls. It was really inexpensive. Even if they don't still do that, you can see if you qualify for lower cost service or if they offer cheaper plans for very limited use. Why don't you see if you can split the cost of the installation and get the cheapest plan available.

My ex doesn't have a regular phone and the court said that that was fine. We had the problem of it being long distance for me to call, so he got a cell phone that doesn't cost anything to use from my area code to his.

I know I was upset when he disconnected the land line, but actually it is just as easy. He always carries his, and the one at home works just fine, it even has a voice mail so I can leave a message. I can always contact the kids, and he is getting better about answering my calls.

Ex: You are required to have two phones so I can keep in contact with you.

You: O.K. thanks. When you go to pick it out I'd like the new Motorola model with the flipup computer.

Ex: What?

You: If I am required to have a cell phone you get to buy it

That's hilarious!! Maybe I will start with that idea first, get him to buy me the cell and pay for it and I will pay for the land line myself!
